Second Curtain Call for Sweeney Todd at Rotherham Civic Theatre
Following the temporary closure of Rotherham Civic Theatre last month, the theatre is pleased to welcome back Rotherham Teachers Student Academy’s postponed production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
The rescheduled performance will take place from Tuesday 26 to Saturday 30 April.
Rotherham Theatres Manager Jo Longworth welcomed the return of the thrilling show to the Civic Theatre stage.
She said: “We are extremely pleased to have rescheduled a number of performances. The young people involved in the production of Sweeney Todd had been working hard to be ready to perform at the Civic Theatre. I am delighted that an alternative date could be found giving them the opportunity to put all their hard work into practise.”
The musical thriller is set in Victorian London. Sweeney Todd tells the grisly story of the eponymous barber who seeks vengeance on what he sees as a merciless world by murdering his customers, with the help of his landlady, the romantically inclined Mrs. Lovett, who bakes their bodies into meat pies.
The pies are then fed to London’s avid and unknowing populace.
