Big Country ‘Steeltown’ – 30th Anniversary Tour
Date: Monday 20th October 2014 Location: Civic Theatre Time: 7.30pm Produced by: Tenacity Music PR Price: £22
The legendary Scottish band ‘Big Country’ will be performing songs from their classic multi-million selling album ‘Steeltown’ as well as the classic hits and live favourites including Harvest Home, Fields of Fire, In A Big Country, Chance, Wonderland, Look Away and The Teacher plus many more.
Their second album ‘Steeltown’ was recorded at ABBA’s Polar Studios in Stockholm, Sweden with Steve Lillywhite producing. It was released on 19 October, 1984 and went straight to the Number 1 slot in the album charts. Band member Bruce Watson on guitars/vocals remembers the time very well, amid the nationwide strife of the Miners’ Strike back in the UK: “We started work on Steeltown back in June 1984 at Abba’s studio. We worked alongside Steve in Studio One as Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber worked on ‘Chess’ next door in Studio Two. Stockholm felt like the most expensive place on earth, it’s as if we were on a different planet to how things were back home – my Dad was a miner, so what we did was knuckle down to hard work for six weeks”.
The band consists of many other distinguished musicians – Mark Brzezicki (drums, vocals), Jamie Watson (guitars/vocals) and former Simple Minds’ bassist/vocalist Derek Forbes, augmented on stage by Simon Hough ex-front man for Denny Laine from Wings and Eric Bell formerly of Thin Lizzy.
Steeped in a stunning catalogue of proud and stirring hit songs and massive albums, the triple Grammy nominated Big Country continue to look beyond the next horizon in 2014.

Dave Spikey – “Punchlines”
Date: Saturday 25th October 2014 Location: Civic Theatre Time: 7.30pm Produced by: Felix Knight Presents Price: £16.50
Punchline.Definition: The final part of a joke, speech or funny story which is intended to provoke laughter or thought or both. Punchlines generally derive their humour from being unexpected – “Punch” indicates that the “Line” should always come as a surprise or shock. There is a large school of thought that suggests that very few Punchlines are inherently funny out of context.
There is another school of thought (actually Dave’s school of thought) that the opposite can be true. In this new show he will present evidence to support this.
Examples include: – “Where do you want your blinds?” / “It’s not my dog” / “Isn’t that some kind of fancy liquor?” / “No! That’s my Thermos flask”.
Then of course there’s Nuns. Nuns in baths, Nuns on bikes and Prince Charles wearing a Fox hat. Dave will also argue that you don’t always need a Punchline for a joke to be hilarious and suggests that if you doubt him, you should ask the bloke with the big orange head next time you see him.

Join us for the highly acclaimed hit musical comedy based on the Academy award winning 1968 satirical film by Mel Brooks, the legendary US Comedian, Actor, Composer, Screen Writer and Film Director.
…Set in New York in 1959, Theatre Producer Max Bialystock was once the king of Broadway, but recently all his shows have closed on opening night. Max’s life looks as though it will turn around when he’s visited by the downtrodden accountant Leo Bloom, who proposes a scheme tailor-made for Producers who can only make flops: raise lots more money than you need and then make sure that the show is despised. No one will be interested in it, so they can pocket the surplus.
The plot develops to this end, when Max and Leo produce a Broadway musical called ‘Springtime For Hitler’ written by escaped Nazi Franz Liebken. Then they get the insanely flamboyant Roger De Bris to direct. Finally, they hire as a lead actress the loopy Swedish bombshell Ulla (whose surname has over 15 syllables!). As opening night draws near, what can go wrong? Well, there’s no accounting for taste…
This production features lots of musical numbers to accompany the hilarious story – audiences will be delighted throughout an entertaining evening.
Adapted by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan.
Music and lyrics by Mel Brooks.

Join us for the biggest rock ‘n’ roll party in town, complete with a live band, as we celebrate the music of the legendary Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Billy Fury and Roy Orbison.
Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent first came to the UK in the legendary 1960 tour. Eddie tragically never made it back home after dying in a car crash in the UK, but his musical genius paved the way for future artists such as The Beatles.

Date: Wednesday 27 May 2015 Location: Civic Theatre Time: 7.30pm Produced by: Joe McCadden Management Price: £18.50
Join us for a memorable evening with the legends of Irish music, The Fureys, famous for their hit songs I Will Love You; When You Were Sweet 16; The Green Fields Of France; The Old Man; Red Rose Café; From Clare To Here; Her Father Didn’t Like Me Anyway; Leaving Nancy and Steal Away when they perform live in concert at Rotherham Civic Theatre.
The Fureys have been entertaining audiences worldwide for 37 years. Notable concert attendees include former Australian Prime Minister John Howard; former Irish President Mary McAleese and the late Pope John Paul II, whilst Tony Blair has publicly stated that his favourite peace song of all time is the Fureys’ ‘The Green Fields of France’. Recently, the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, attended their concert in Dublin’s National Concert Hall.
The Fureys are responsible for producing some of the most stirring music ever to capture the public imagination. Their folk-based music has received standing ovations in some of the largest concert halls around the world and they credit their musical ability to their parents, Ted and Nora, who were well-known musicians themselves. They encouraged their sons to play music from a very early age and there was live traditional music in their house almost nightly.
Through the years the line-up has changed a little, but brothers George and Eddie have continued to delight audiences on their tours and have just released a new CD ‘The Times They Are A-Changing’.
Their emotive songs stir many emotions… tears and laughter, sadness and joy.
Don’t miss The Fureys in concert – it is always a night to remember.
