The Story of ENIGMA is one of the Second World War’s most fascinating stories. The Allied Codebreakers deciphered a vast number of German secret messages and used the intelligence gained to hasten Allied victory. The Germans had entrusted their secret communications to an ingenious ciphering machine the Enigma, which was portable, easily operated, and could be set up in millions of ways. The codes were used and every one was changed every 24 hours.
The Allies gained invaluable information about troop and aircraft dispositions, orders of battle, U-boat movements, technical development, military intentions and tank and artillery strengths. It is generally reckoned that the intelligence from Enigma shortened the war by about two years.
Dr Mark Baldwin has made a detailed study of the Enigma machine and the code-breaking work at Bletchley Park. From his research, Dr Mark Baldwin has prepared an entertaining and instructive show and has built up a unique collection of slides which illustrate the main features of those important facts of the Second World War.
The show is followed by a Q & A, plus there will be an opportunity to get involved with a hands-on demonstration of one of the very few surviving Enigma machines.

‘Roy Orbison and Friends, this is one heck of a show; Barry Steele is the closest I have seen to the real thing! I should know, I’ve mixed sound for Roy Orbison’
– Charlie North-Lewis, Tivoli Theatre Manager
‘Standing motionless behind the microphone, guitar in hand, those tight-pursed lips opened with Claudette, the ode to Roy’s wife. A sigh of relief, the “Caruso of rock” was back on stage, and we settled back to enjoy a wonderful catalogue of greatest hits’
– Trevor Ekins, Grimsby Telegraph

Date: Tuesday 10 to Saturday 14 November 2015 Location: Civic Theatre Time: 7.15pm, Saturday matinee 2.15pm Produced by: Rotherham Teachers Student Academy Price: Full price £14 – Concessions £13
Little Dorothy Gale of Kansas, like so many girls her age, often dreams of what may lie over the rainbow. One day a tornado hits her home town and carries her away to Munchkinland – at the end of the rainbow.
The Munchkins fete Dorothy as a heroine. Dorothy wants to go home to Kansas and seeks the help of the kind Sorceress of the North. Only the great Wizard of Oz, says the Sorceress, can help Dorothy get back to Kansas.
Dorothy persuades three friends to accompany her on the trip to the Emerald City to see the Wizard. They are Scarecrow, who lacks a brain, he thinks; the Tin Woodman, who has no heart, and the Cowardly Lion, who would like to have some courage.
The Wicked Witch of the West vows vengeance on Dorothy and does all she can to stop the friends getting to the Emerald City. But they do reach it, and manage to see the Wizard. He will only help them, he says, if they kill the Wicked Witch of the West, an apparently impossible task. They do succeed, they get all their wishes and the Wizard accompanies Dorothy to Kansas in a rocket ship.
