Codebreakers – The Story of Enigma

Date: Tuesday 20 October 2015
Location: Civic Theatre
Time: 7.30pm
Produced by: All-Electric Production
Price: £16

The Story of ENIGMA is one of the Second World War’s most fascinating stories. The Allied Codebreakers deciphered a vast number of German secret messages and used the intelligence gained to hasten Allied victory. The Germans had entrusted their secret communications to an ingenious ciphering machine the Enigma, which was portable, easily operated, and could be set up in millions of ways. The codes were used and every one was changed every 24 hours.

The Allies gained invaluable information about troop and aircraft dispositions, orders of battle, U-boat movements, technical development, military intentions and tank and artillery strengths. It is generally reckoned that the intelligence from Enigma shortened the war by about two years.

Dr Mark Baldwin has made a detailed study of the Enigma machine and the code-breaking work at Bletchley Park. From his research, Dr Mark Baldwin has prepared an entertaining and instructive show and has built up a unique collection of slides which illustrate the main features of those important facts of the Second World War.

The show is followed by a Q & A, plus there will be an opportunity to get involved with a hands-on demonstration of one of the very few surviving Enigma machines.

The Munchkins fete Dorothy as a heroine. Dorothy wants to go home to Kansas and seeks the help of the kind Sorceress of the North. Only the great Wizard of Oz, says the Sorceress, can help Dorothy get back to Kansas.

Dorothy persuades three friends to accompany her on the trip to the Emerald City to see the Wizard. They are Scarecrow, who lacks a brain, he thinks; the Tin Woodman, who has no heart, and the Cowardly Lion, who would like to have some courage.

The Wicked Witch of the West vows vengeance on Dorothy and does all she can to stop the friends getting to the Emerald City. But they do reach it, and manage to see the Wizard. He will only help them, he says, if they kill the Wicked Witch of the West, an apparently impossible task. They do succeed, they get all their wishes and the Wizard accompanies Dorothy to Kansas in a rocket ship.

It was the conflict of a generation and one which many will never forget. On 2 April 1982, Argentina invaded the Falklands Islands, with the aim of recapturing them. The Islands were controlled by Great Britain for nearly 150 years and became a battle ground; the UK government were quick to defend the Islands and its inhabitants. There were many deaths from both countries.

Amongst those who were sent to the conflict was Simon Weston OBE. In one of the most horrific moments, the RFA Sir Galahad with Simon aboard, was bombed by two Argentine planes. Against the odds, Simon escaped the burning and buckled ship, suffering 46% burns to his body. Today, he has become one of the most recognised faces of the conflict and for the first time ever Simon is taking to the stage to tell his story with no holds barred.

Guiding him from that fateful day to current times is David Fitzgerald, former Sky News anchor and close friend. From his own unique perspective, Simon will share shocking truths about the conflict, the day the Sir Galahad was attacked, its impact and consequences since.

This is a truly inspirational show about one man’s journey from the front line of war, on the edge of death, to today, being a happy and contented father, grandfather and national treasure.

Roy Chubby Brown returns with his meatiest show yet!

He’s still rude, he’s still crude and this time he’s turning headlines into punch lines as his rip-roaring brand of banter continues to burst bellies across the country. Chubby doesn’t hold back from sharing his outlandish views on news, women and gender, sailing so close to the mark, even the most seasoned of fans will be left gob-smacked!

As politically incorrect as ever ‘The World’s Most Outrageous Comedian’ is far too rude for TV, so this live performance is the only place to catch the flamboyant comedian!

If easily offended please stay away!

Suitable for ages 18 years and over.

The children and their mother have no choice but to leave their home and move to a quiet little cottage next to a railway in Oakworth, Yorkshire.

‘Oh Fe Fi Fo. And Fe Fi Fum! Now what shall I do to wipe my …’

‘Bumpety! Bumpety! Bumpety – Bump! A Giant’s toilet roll one day fell to the floor and flew away.’

Look out for the biggest loo roll ever on stage in this GIANT of a children’s musical adventure. The villagers living in the town below the Giant’s house had better watch out, that loo roll has gone bouncing down the hill and straight towards them! Luckily, the townsfolk find lots of uses for runaway loo paper – one sheet provides a huge canvas for an artist, a tailor uses another to fill her shop with paper pants and a school class makes a huge dart that can fly. But what about the Giant himself – doesn’t he need any loo paper? The townspeople have an answer for that, too!

Watch out for some frightened sheep, lots of excited children and a fantastic amount of toilet paper in this rip-roaring new musical. This show has the perfect combination of witty humour, fantastic music and the extra sparkle in this fabulously funny and brilliantly bouncy musical adaptation of Nicholas Allan’s much loved book.
