Jack, an antiques dealer, shoots and kills a burglar. He is tried for manslaughter. However, he is acquitted and on his return home regales his girlfriend Maggie and their neighbours with a disparaging account of the trial.
According to the evidence (most of it Jack’s), the victim, Philip Mercer, had broken in late at night, and, on being confronted by Jack, produced a gun that Jack got hold of during the ensuing struggle and then used to kill Mercer.
A clear case of self-defence, or was it something a little more sinister?

The biblical story of Joseph and his coat of many colours comes alive in the musical retelling.
Joseph, the favorite son of Jacob, is blessed with vivid dreams that foretell the future. Sold into slavery by his jealous brothers, Joseph endures a series of adventures which challenge him to his core. Soon he finds himself belonging to Potiphar, whose wife makes advances toward Joseph and ultimately land him behind bars. However, news of Joseph’s ability to interpret dreams sparks the interest of the hilariously Elvis-like Pharaoh.
Soon, Joseph is out of jail and well on his way to second-in-command. Eventually Joseph’s brothers find themselves unknowingly groveling at the feet of the brother they betrayed. As they fail to even recognise him, Joseph tests their integrity. He ultimately reveals himself and the brothers are reconciled.
A truly timeless Old Testament tale, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is set to a multitude of musical genres, spanning from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock and roll.
Quadrophenia – The Album Live
Date: Wednesday 26 September 2018 Location: Civic Theatre Time: 7.30pm Produced by: Concept Concerts Price: £22 inc fees
Produced by Concept Concerts this production, acclaimed by a Sunday Times journalist as “Mighty, moving and unstoppable,” sees 8-piece band, The Goldhawks, deliver a stunning live performance of The Who’s smash hit concept album, Quadrophenia. From the very first show it has received standing ovations.
Released over 40 years ago in October 1973, The Who’s second rock opera ‘Quadrophenia’ was Pete Townshend’s homage to a piv-otal moment in British youth culture. The album tells the story of Jimmy, a Mod, by chronicling his dissatisfaction with life, work, love, home, and family life. It served as an ode to teenage angst and counterculture rebellion, as well as a criticism of the British class, economic and educational systems but you don’t need to be clued up on the history of the Mods and Rockers to enjoy this show because at its core, Quadrophenia, which peaked at No. 2 on the UK and USA charts, is just about teenage confusion, conflict and frustration.
Backed with exciting, and sometimes heart-wrenching, large-screen projection of archival footage, the emotions, tension and raw power that the music demands is delivered masterfully by the fabulous, charismatic band, The Goldhawks, with amazing replication of The Who’s sound.
To send you home on an even bigger high there are a few all-time classic Who hits to close the show!
Date: Thursday 27 September 2018 Location: Civic Theatre Time: 7.30pm Produced by: Felix Knight Ltd Price: Full £18 inc fees
JUGGLING ON A MOTORBIKE will see the Lancashire based comic look back on his remarkable life and incredible journey from working class lad to Chief Biomedical Scientist to much loved comedy performer and writer via Phoenix Nights, Eight out of Ten Cats, Bullseye, Dead Man Weds, Magnolia, The Royal Variety Show, Parkinson and many more.
Dave Spikey had been working in the NHS for 19 years as a Biomedical Scientist when in 1987 someone uttered the immortal words, “You’re really funny, you should be a comedian” and for some reason, he took them seriously!!
Only a few short months later he was crowned the winner of the national talent show Stairway to the Stars. Larry Grayson, one of the judges, told him that it was a close run thing on the night but what clinched the award for Dave was his routine about a juggler on a motorbike. Fast forward 13 years (Is that possible?) to Friday 13th October 2000 – the day Dave switched off his microscope for the last time in the Haematology Laboratory. The following Monday he found himself sitting on a rain-swept local car park dressed as a giant Berry!! Dave often reflects that maybe none of this would have happened and he might still be looking down his microscope today if it wasn’t for the juggler on a motorbike!

The UK is in crisis: debt is spiraling, unemployment rising and the fragile coalition cabinet, led by Prime Minister Jim Hacker, is at breaking point. But salvation may exist in the form of a complex pipeline deal with the oil-rich country of Kumranistan.
However, when the Kumranistan Foreign Secretary makes a shocking request of Jim’s Private Secretary, moral considerations collide with the economic future of the nation.
How will Jim and his team reconcile the two?
From the writers of the original television series Yes, Prime Minister, comes this equally sharply satirical stage version.

By John Godber
On his graduation day in 1978, John looks back over his early teenage years with warmth remembering the joys, tensions and sorrows of family life in West Yorkshire with his parents Vic and Dot, his grandparents and aunties.
John, now older and educated, finds himself alienated from his working-class family who cannot understand his theatrical aspirations.
An affectionate look at an ordinary family struggling with change described by John Godber as ‘humour with a touch of sadness’.
