Second Curtain Call for Sweeney Todd at Rotherham Civic Theatre

Second Curtain Call for Sweeney Todd at Rotherham Civic Theatre

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street – 26 to 30 April

Following the temporary closure of Rotherham Civic Theatre last month, the theatre is pleased to welcome back Rotherham Teachers Student Academy’s postponed production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

The rescheduled performance will take place from Tuesday 26 to Saturday 30 April.

Rotherham Theatres Manager Jo Longworth welcomed the return of the thrilling show to the Civic Theatre stage.

She said: “We are extremely pleased to have rescheduled a number of performances. The young people involved in the production of Sweeney Todd had been working hard to be ready to perform at the Civic Theatre. I am delighted that an alternative date could be found giving them the opportunity to put all their hard work into practise.”

The musical thriller is set in Victorian London. Sweeney Todd tells the grisly story of the eponymous barber who seeks vengeance on what he sees as a merciless world by murdering his customers, with the help of his landlady, the romantically inclined Mrs. Lovett, who bakes their bodies into meat pies.

The pies are then fed to London’s avid and unknowing populace.

Tickets for Sweeney Todd are on sale now and can be purchased safely, securely and quickly via the Theatres website

Alternatively, you can get your tickets by either visiting the Box Office, located in All Saints’ Square in the Rotherham Visitor Centre, or calling the Box Office on 01709 823621.

Maureen Nolan To Star In Cinderella Pantomime

Rotherham Theatres are delighted to announce the first star of the Cinderella Pantomime 2015-16.

Maureen Nolan - The Fairy GodmotherThe Fairy godmother will be played by Maureen Nolan, from the original girl group The Nolans and has also developed an accomplished career as a West End actress.

Maureen has been singing with her sisters, The Nolans, since she was nine years old. They became one of Europe’s first successful girl bands, with phenomenal record sales worldwide – particularly in Japan, where they sold more records than The Beatles! The Nolans have worked with some of the world’s most respected artists including the legendary Frank Sinatra. Their music success ensured that the Nolans put an entire generation “In The Mood For Dancing!”

The Nolans line-up has changed many times, however, Maureen, stayed with the group until they disbanded in 2005. The original girl group reunited in 2009 – with a new album, DVD and a sell-out UK tour, with some venues selling out within hours.

A familiar face in musical theatre, Maureen has received plaudits from critics and audience members alike. Maureen has appeared in the comedy musical Girl’s Behind, and in Mum’s The Word, Footloose, Stardust – A Musical Flashback In Time and The Eva Cassidy Story. Maureen returned to Mum’s The Word in 2008 playing opposite her late and very much missed sister Bernie. In 2011 Maureen performed in the world premiere of the new musical Peter Pan at the Canal Theatre in Dublin.

Maureen is a veteran of 20 pantomimes and is thrilled to be performing as The Fairy Godmother in Cinderella at Rotherham Civic Theatre.

Rotherham Panto Welcomes A Beast Of A Star!

The weather may be (finally) heating up, but, Rotherham Theatres are looking towards the fun of the festive period by signing a ‘huge’ name for this year’s panto!

Rotherham

2014 PANTOMIME: ALADDIN – starring “The Beast” from ITV’s ‘The Chase’

Mark Labbett, better known as “The Beast” on ITV game show The Chase in the UK has been snapped up to star as the evil Abanazar in this year’s production, Aladdin!

Six foot seven inch Mark took up his role in the popular TV show in 2009 and became the sole ‘chaser’ on the show’s American counterpart in 2013. No stranger to the big stage, Mark has appeared twice on Mastermind and Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

As Rotherham Theatre’s Manager, Mark Scott, explains, rugby fan Mark is more than ready to ‘tackle’ one of the biggest panto roles going.

“Mark is originally from Newport in Wales, but, since moving to the area, he’s not only become a household name, but also a ‘huge’ fan of the Civic Theatre and I know he’s thrilled to be taking up such an iconic role! “He’s the perfect person to play such a famously imposing character like Abanazar. Mark will be fabulous at bringing the role to life and getting the audience hissing and booing.

“If past shows are anything to go by, this one should be a cracker, especially now we have The Beast on our side. We have a new company producing the show, Shone Productions, who are a genuinely fantastic forward-thinking modern company managed by James Shone, who produces shows with dazzling dance routines, great songs and stunning scripts.

“Also returning this year is a live band, who will be replacing the pre-recorded tunes of the past to bring some real, live atmosphere to the show. We haven’t had a live band in panto for over a decade so it will be a really special occasion and something to look forward to.”

Joining Mark will be Ricky K, who will star in the title role as Aladdin. Ricky recently wowed Simon Cowell with his visual comedy routines in his Britain’s Got Talent audition and subsequent semi final. He’s expecting a similarly rapturous reception from Rotherham audiences when he brings his wacky antics to the Civic stage.

Also joining the cast are West End Star Alexandra Hans as the beautiful Princess Jasmine, and back by popular demand, is Mark Hudson, who brought the theatre to its knees last year as Dame, will return as the famous, and infamous, Widow Twankey.

Rotherham

2014 PANTOMIME: ALADDIN – Tickets on sale NOW

Mark Scott added: “What we have potentially, is a comedy double act who are going make each show a must see! “I’ve no doubt that with Ricky, the two Marks, the live band and a fresh production, this year will be a special one for panto fans in Rotherham and I can’t wait!”

Tickets for Aladdin are on sale now and can be purchased safely, securely and quickly online.
